Following its grand opening, the Dahlbruch Cultural Marketplace (kmd) offers a wide array of events and cultural activities. With a significant investment of 150,000 Euros in modern event technology and planned additions such as a second cinema and complete gastronomy, the kmd is establishing itself as a vibrant center for culture and community engagement.
The newly opened Dahlbruch Cultural Marketplace is already experiencing vibrant use, although some areas such as the gastronomy and a second cinema are still under construction. The facility was designed to unite a wide range of cultural activities under one roof and has successfully met its first major challenge: both the Gebrüder-Busch Circle and the Viktoria Cinema were able to offer events simultaneously for the first time, without having to share a theater hall, which had been the case for over 60 years.
The kmd connects the old theater with a newly constructed House of Everyday Culture and accommodates 150 spectators. In addition to the main hall, there are three more event spaces adjoining the youth café No Limits, which opened in May 2024 and has seen strong attendance. The new facilities not only promote cultural networking but also provide space for educational activities and civic engagement.
Currently, 150,000 Euros are being invested in event technology to optimally utilize the various spaces. An additional financial grant of 450,000 Euros is sought for the implementation phase to establish the kmd as a "Third Place" for culture and encounter in rural areas. Future plans include completing a smaller theater on the first floor for events with up to 122 guests and finishing the gastronomy, despite current delivery difficulties.
These developments underscore the significance of the kmd as a central cultural hub, strengthening local communities and making a significant contribution to the cultural landscape of the region.
